Riding Haleakalā: Cycle to the Sun

Ride Haleakalā indoors on Everycol’s Cycle to the Sun route, beginning in Pāʻia and ending at Puʻu ʻUlaʻula. The itinerary connects the north shore, Makawao and the upper mountain in one continuous ascent through the Maui region.

This is the Pāʻia version of the climb. Other catalog routes start near Kahului or in Kula, so their distances and total ascent differ even though they share the upper section of the mountain. Check the starting point as well as the summit name when comparing them.

From Pāʻia through Upcountry

The route leaves Pāʻia on Baldwin Avenue toward Makawao. Its mapped itinerary continues by Hanamu Road and Kealaloa Avenue to Kula Lodge, where the approach joins the roads toward Crater Road. This lower section is part of the full ride rather than a separate warmup.

Crater Road to the summit

The upper itinerary follows Crater Road past Park Headquarters, Leleiwi and Kalahaku, then continues by the Haleakalā Visitor Center to Puʻu ʻUlaʻula. Use those stages and the elevation profile to see how much climbing remains after reaching the upper mountain.

Choose your Haleakalā route

Cycle to the Sun includes the Pāʻia approach. Compare the Kula and Kahului variants if you want a different starting point, or select Haleakalā Summit to the Sea for a descent in the opposite direction. The route statistics here measure the simulated ride and are not an outdoor navigation guide.
