Riding Fuji Southern Foothills

Ride Mount Fuji’s southern foothills indoors from Gotemba to Susono. This Everycol itinerary crosses the mountain’s southern flank via Tarōbō and the Fuji Skyline, reaches Mizugatsuka, then descends through Jūrigi toward Susono.

This route explores the southern flank beneath the Hōei crater. It does not finish at a fifth station or return to Gotemba. The map and profile show the climb and descent together, with different starting and finishing towns.

Gotemba to Mizugatsuka

The route begins in Gotemba and climbs toward Tarōbō before traversing the southern flank on the Fuji Skyline to Mizugatsuka. This approach gives the first part of the ride its climbing character. The elevation profile makes the transition from ascent to the later descent visible.

Through Jūrigi to Susono

After Mizugatsuka, the itinerary heads through the forest toward Jūrigi and continues to Susono. Because the finish differs from the start, total ascent and descent need not match. Use the mapped endpoints when comparing this ride with a Fuji loop or a route to a fifth station.
